The Association of Respiratory Nurse Specialists (ARNS) was established in 1997 as a nursing forum for respiratory nurse specialists to promote a higher level of respiratory nursing practice through leadership, education and professional development. ARNS also works to influence the direction of respiratory nursing care.
ARNS has built its reputation in the following ways:
Respiratory Nurse Leadership
ARNS influences respiratory policy by collaborating with other respiratory organisations and sends representation to the Department of Health (DoH), NICE and other NHS initiatives that involve respiratory care, policy and practice.
Evidence Based Practice
ARNS has developed bespoke courses, study days and runs an annual conference to support its members to deliver evidence based practice within the rapidly changing health-care environment.
Discussion and Networking
ARNS provides a supportive network and encourages information sharing, best practice and research collaboration through the website, regular email updates, and the discussion page on facebook.
Collaboration with the Nursing Times
ARNS works closely with the Nursing Times and supports the Nursing Times Respiratory page by writing articles, suggesting respiratory topics for publication and recommending authors for articles. ARNS acts as a peer reviewer for respiratory articles published in the Nursing Times. The Nursing Times Deputy Editor acts as a judge for the research posters submitted to the ARNS annual conference.

Empowering
ARNS supports its members by fostering networking with other respiratory specialists and organisations. ARNS encourages research by providing Bursaries to its members. ARNS encourages and promotes new respiratory initiatives that improve respiratory care for patients. ARNS is run by nurses for nurses.
Associate membership is offered to allied health professionals and those working in a non-clinical environment who are involved in respiratory care. |
