Thank you for your interest in the Association of Respiratory Nurse Specialists, ARNS.
The Association was formed to address the specific educational and development needs of respiratory specialist nurses and to encourage the dissemination of information on best respiratory clinical practice especially to those working across the interface between primary and secondary care.
The aims of ARNS are:
To raise the profile of respiratory care both locally and nationally.
The formation and development of local strategies for respiratory care in order to achieve the best possible quality of outcome.
To address national issues of concern regarding respiratory care.
To encourage the sharing of ideas, developments and innovations in the practice of respiratory care.
For more information about ARNS click here.
Eligibility to join the Association includes nurses working in a specialist role in either a primary or secondary care setting.
However, ARNS recognises that it cannot meet the needs of nurses working solely in the areas of Respiratory Paediatrics, Tuberculosis, Cystic Fibrosis, or Lung Cancer. Other existing and well-established respiratory nursing forums may be more beneficial and appropriate in these situations.
In recognition of the changes in respiratory care and working practice, we are encouraging membership from those nurses who are working in any primary care setting (including general practice), as respiratory specialists.
All applicants must demonstrate that 50% of their workload is based in respiratory care and must also have a recognised post basic qualification in respiratory care e.g. Asthma or COPD L2 diploma. Please include a job description with your application that demonstrates these criteria.
For 2007, we are creating an associate membership category. This category recognises inpiduals who have expressed an interest in respiratory care and its developments but who may be based in research and/or academic posts.
If you feel that you fulfil this criteria, we would love to hear from you; the Association currently has no membership fee for joining. For membership, simply complete the application form and forward with your full job description to the ARNS Secretariat . Remember if you are downloading the form and completing electronically, you will need to save it first onto your computer and then you can attach both this and a copy of your job description to the email that you send to the secretariat. Otherwise you can print out the application form and post it with a copy of your job description to:
Association of Respiratory Nurse Specialists
17 Doughty Street, London WC1N 2PL
If you have any queries that you wish to discuss further, then contact the membership secretary, who will be happy to help.
Thank you for your interest. We look forward to hearing from you.
